A cornucopia of ripe plum, blueberry, leather, straw and cola make for a fruity, earthy nose with a hint of the “sauvage”. A sip is silky-smooth with medium weight, and flavours of dark field berries, sage, black olive and caramel. Picked at Quarry Ridge Vineyard, the site is still tended by the Reimers, Robin and Stuart, whose father planted these vines in 1972. After primary and full malo-lactic fermentation in stainless steel, the wine aged 16 months in oak barrels (of which 88% were American oak, 12% were French oak and one-in-five were new).
